    Sports Report 2014

It’s challenging to get success but difficult to sustain.

The more you sweat in the field, the less you bleed in battle. The five S’s of sports training are: Stamina, Speed, Strength, Skill and Spirit but the greatest out of these is Spirit. If we talk about this year on the playfield, we had a very successful year. We started our journey with Cricket Match at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla. The Durganians achieved this by defeating the premier and prestigious schools of the country. This year U-14 cricket team won the tournament held at Chandigarh. Apart from these tournaments the school team played friendly and regular fixtures with the teams in and around the state gaining upper edge over them.

The important thing in life is not the victory but the contest, the essential thing is not to have won but to have fought well. Now let’s move on to the game of soccer. We had a good beginning as we played semi-final in the IV Bishop Cotton Invitational Tournament held at BCS, Shimla. U-14 team won COCA-COLA Cup held in Solan and school management awarded the players with cash prize of Rs. 2100/-.

It has been a matter of pride and joy for us when COCA-COLA Cup tournament held 2nd time in Solan and Durganians registered convincing with consecutively. If you can believe it the mind can achieve it. The game in which we have attained path-breaking success every time is the game of Table Tennis. This year we started with the victory, by winning the 7th Maa Shoolini Open Table Tennis Tournament and emerged as the overall winner also. We played fairly well in Hot Weather Open Tournament held at Shimla. We were declared as overall winner in Distt. Tournament held in our school in which tournament we gave tough fight to all schools of Solan district. In the most prestigious CBSE Cluster Table Tennis Tournament 2014 we got a chance to host it which was organized from 12th to 15th of October. In this tournament U-19 Boys team won gold medal. Players were very fast on the table named Madhav Singh, Navjot Mokta and Ankit Jaglan and all selected for CBSE nationals. U-14 Individual Royal Sidhu won silver medal and selected for National in U-19 Madhav Singh won silver medal and selected for nationals.

“We love the winning, we can take the losing, but most of all we love to play”

Now moving towards the game of Basketball girl’s team brought laurels to us in State Tournament held in Kakira in Chamba by winning the runner’s up trophy. Our U-14 Girls begged 1st position in State Championship held at Gohar, Mandi.

We won runners up trophy in Sahodaya Cup Basketball. In first Indian Public School All India Sports Festival 2014 we begged first position in U-14 & U-19, and won runner’s up trophy also in U-19. In CBSE cluster begged the gold medal and selected for the nationals. In Karate also our school students are showing their talents as you flip through the pages. We have a brigade pf more than 50 national players including present and past. If you go through the data, every 6th sports player in our school is a national player. Durga Public School feels pride to have a rare distinction in Himachal Pradesh of winning gold medals in different games in CBSE Tournament. Our Lawn Tennis players are shinning in the north zone by playing with the top ranked players of the country, Dhananjay Singh U- 12 and Navneet Singh Chahel U-14, made his place in the finals of AITA Talent Hunt held in different part of the country, in All Indian Public School Competitions we r5anked at 1st and 2nd position. In the CBSE north zone our players reached up to the quarter finals. Excellent sports infrastructure coupled with the highly valuable services of the coaches & supportive staff we are marching ahead tirelessly with firm footing to emerge to be the shinning sports star in the world. Despite all the achievements our all national players are getting more than 80% marks in academics too.
